Our Story
Our foods are so fresh tasting you will find yourself eating straight from the jar.
- Sandi & Hugh Sabel, Terra Verde Farms
We began as a small family owned and operated organic farm located in the Texas Hill Country in 1996. Our interest in food and cooking led to the development of Terra Verde Farms' gourmet specialty foods. While many conventional commercial farmers stress uniformity of size and appearance, we emphasize flavor. The intense flavors of the organic produce we use to grow are incorporated in each of our specialty foods. Our artisan foods enable you to close your eyes and remember Grandma's Peach Cobblers, Aunt Annie's Wild Plum Preserves, or that juicy, plump, fresh picked blackberry you stuck into your mouth instead of putting in your pail. Terra Verde Farms' gourmet products are true artisan foods handmade in small batches from our recipes. Minimal sugar or other sweeteners are added to our products. Several have no sweetener added at all. We only use natural ingredients… no artificial flavorings, colors or preservative. Your first and last impression of Terra Verde Farms' foods is the taste of ripe fruit or fresh vegetables. In 2003, the Artisan Food line that began as a way to use our "uglies" (the produce left behind after all of our "pretties" sold at the market) became the mainstay of our operations. Our product line has grown from a few items to over 30. Early, 2004 we decided it was time to sell the farm and concentrate on our specialty foods. Mother Nature had assisted in our decision to transition out of farming with late spring freezes in 2002 and 2003 that took the fruit crops. 2004 we pack-up the kitchen and moved West to Arizona. This move has allowed us to introduce our products to the Southwest and Pacific Northwest. Foodzies and the internet has allowed us to share our "Good Foods" with you, no matter where you live.
Beauty is skin deep, but flavor goes all the way to the taste buds. The intense flavors of the organic produce we used to grow are incorporated in each of our specialty foods.
Terra Verde Farms' gourmet products are true artisan foods handmade in small batches from our own recipes. Minimal sugar and other sweeteners are added to our products. Several have no sweetener added at all. We only use natural ingredients…no artificial flavorings, colors or preservatives. Fresh ginger, lemon, peppers, onion, garlic, and the finest quality fresh and dried herbs are incorporated into our foods. The tomatoes used for our Green Chili Salsa and Tomato Basil Garlic Sauce are roasted then slow cooked to develop the richness only this method can impart. Your first and last impression of Terra Verde Farms' foods is the taste of ripe fruit or fresh vegetables.
In 2000, Terra Verde Farms' artisan foods outgrew our farm's production capabilities. We began to find others to grow some of the fruit and vegetables used to make our products. Never fear…we did not compromise our taste or standards....today we select the finest fruits and vegetables from growers in 5 states. We still produce fresh, full flavored, all natural foods!

2004 began with a farmers' market and show tour in Arizona. It was so successful that we determined our future was "west of the Pecos". That year, the old adage "You can do two jobs at once, but one job suffers" became true for us. We decided it was time to sell the farm and concentrate on our specialty foods. Mother Nature had assisted in our decision to transition out of farming with late spring freezes in 2002 and 2003 that took the fruit crops.
In March 2004, we packed up the kitchen and moved to Arizona where, for the past four years, we concentrated on developing markets west of Texas. Terra Verde Farms continues to bring its artisan foods to you through farmer's markets, food and wine events, fine art and craft shows, our web site and selected retail sites. We participate at events in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas and Washington throughout the year.
